Die Box - Homer Hudson - Smith Estate

Fun Trivia – Homer Hudson and Carl Williams lived in the same town – I believe Pasadena.  Carl Willams’ was known for being a salty character who admittingly had an intellectual advantage and he would frequently attempt to throw shade on Homer (Homer had for lack of a better explanation raw assets that was solely a part of his DNA) by stating something along the lines of: “That Homer Hudson – hell he only knows how to make one thing that die box.”  But whether Carl knew it or not (and if you want my guess he did) Homer is one of the few craftsman in magic that made a damn good living selling that same old repetitive die box over the years.  Golden’s Magic purchases 15,000 of just that one item!  He made other items of course too but the die box back story for me (or the human personality of magic) I just can’t get enough of – Mark Stevens

This is one of the most well-known items built by Homer Hudson in Southern California and for years it was the small die box to beat. It looks great and works perfectly.

Homer Hudson was a prolific builder of magic props for most of his life. He was best known for his silk-screened novelty side tables and die boxes. He originally worked for Floyd Thayer in the 1930’s and 1940’s. He created most of the props marketed by Golden’s Magic Wand of Southern California during the 1950’s and 1960’s and then sold directly as himself and through major dealers from the late 1960’s until his retirement in 1995.

Effect: A die vanishes from a two-compartment box and reappears in a previously shown empty hat or another container. The die box has a sliding weight for the standard sucker effect and has one door to provide the extra convincer during the routine.
