Here is something you probably haven't seen before.  Notice the bent and twisted linking rings.  My friend and professional magician Jim Drehfal actually had these - well "twisted" - I guess is the right word! Then he tipped me as to where he got the idea.  It was included in Ken Brooke's - A Lifetime of Joy.  Note:  This item is geared for larger audiences. 

As the US distributor of Ken Brooke I'm going to share some of the info from the book that talks about this gag.

Ken Brooke: "The Chinese Rings... What a trick!  I used it throughout my working life. When I hear my music, "Around the World, I think of the many hours I had with the great Dai Vernon.  When I picked up my rings, I always tried to imitate him.

Get three linked rings as near in size and shape to those you work with (INCLUDED in this price).  Get a vise, a hammer, and then bend them; so much that it would be impossible to work with them. (Don't have to do any of that - we have the twisted set also INCLUDED).

Before the show, go out and find a stooge, some one that appears to be a bit out going and is enjoying himself.  Have him put the bent rings under his coat. (Or in this modern age hand him a tote bag large enough to contain the rings.) Tell him that while you are working, you will give him another three rings to under the "assumption" that he is to examine them.  But make sure he understands he is not supposed to do any examination of either set of rings.  The 2nd set of rings after having shown to the audience will go inside another matching tote bag that is just a little larger.  This way the first tote bag you provided the stooge with before the show - can fit inside the 2nd. 

As you start to walk away you announce to the stooge - "Make sure the rings are solid and there are no gimmicks of any kind."  The more you amp that up the better.  At this point he can put the first tote bag inside the other (it's okay if people seated next to him are in on it) as it is the majority of the audience that this is targeted for, and they won't know anything.  

Later, when you ask him, "Would you throw the three rings I gave you back to me?," he is to walk up and either throw the three BENT rings on the stage floor or just hand them back to you. If there is a stage and he is able to throw it on stage that is the best option because everyone will hear a "THUD!"  As soon as he does so, you either pick them up or if your holding them already you open them so that the audience can clearly see the rings are completely bent, twisted and damaged. 

At this point you can announce something to the effect of:  "My lord good man when I said examine them I didn't mean destroy them!"  Then to the audience yell out, "Can you believe this guy?  Did anyone in the audience hear me say anything remotely close to "damage and bend the rings to the best of your ability." "I bet your wife doesn't ask for you help much these days - does she?"  The comic by-play gives you broad latitude for the possibility of some great jokes.

After the laughter dies down simply drop the bent rings on the stage and walk towards him where he then will provide you with the other 3 Ring set of rings, which often elicits additional laughter as the audiences learns they were hooked into the gag.   

From that point you break into you preferred routine.  A routine is included as was in his bags.  But any 3 ring routine can be applied. 

We have provided a beautiful 10.5" fully functional 3 Ring set with bayonet key that is in FINE condition. Truthfully for some just this set alone is worth the price.  We are providing these to use in conjunction with the Twisted ring set.  This is as close as one can get to making the two rings as similar as possible EVEN though it is NOT necessary for any technical reason but just for the sake of continuity. 

Please Note: The "Twisted" set does NOT have a key ring. It is 3 connected rings with no gimmick.

Both Sets of Rings (the twisted one & the regular 3 ring set) come with individual customized bags that have Velcro on the outside so that you can attach the two individual bags together for storage.  Jim is a professional all the way - the construction of these custom bags with the VELCRO lock keeps the two independent rings adjoined so they are always packaged and ready go.  

Important: Remember this is a SIGHT gag.  As such it's not essential that the rings look identical.  The gag is the Bent rings.  That stated, I agree it would not be wise to use a 15" set of rings as it veers to far away in continuity. 

This merely serves as a comedic element after which you perform a classic three ring routine with the other set.  Don't get hung up on the differences between the two sets of rings.  Why: Because at NO point are we trying to switch one for the other.

All that they have to be is in the same ballpark and while the bent rings are smaller it's a moot point because at no time are you trying to "trick" the audience into thinking they are exactly the same.  Both of the rings are constructed of metal no aluminum, because the twisted rings are twisted it makes sense they appear a little smaller because they were squeezed.  The size of the twisted rings are not consistent depending on where you measure but I measured them and I would say they are about 10".  Thus the 10.5" - 3 ring set with bayonet key which is also constructed of similar metal is as close as one can get. POINT: It's not easy finding ANY 3 ring set these days.  

CONDITION:  The gimmicked set is in FINE condition.  As far as the twisted set - ha! How does one put a condition on such an item.  The total package with the adhering felt bags is as one would expect from a true professional magician.
