The Astro-Ball Cabinet by Milson Worth - Stevens Estate

IMPORTANT: The Performance video by Andy Martin uses a different designed version of this effect and is not representative of the unit we are offering. We include the video for educational purposes. Ad copy and speed demo used with permission by Andy Martin of: www.martinsmagic.com Probably my personal favorite craftsman because he did it all, wood, medals with such a large variety of finishes. I believe Milson Worth (who is of course highly respected) to still be under appreciated when you take into scope the range of materials he worked with and how all of them were top of the line. I love his Stainless steel items.

When Jim Simon of Worth Magic (before Milson-Worth) created the Astro-Ball Cabinet c. 1965 it caused quite a stir because Jim basically took Phase 1 of Stewart James’ Sefalaljia which was a ground breaking five phase routine when it appeared in issue 69 of The Jinx December 2, 1939. As Stewart James himself said in an interview with Jeff Busby in 1987: “I expect the originality in that version was the use of a cocktail glass.” Ouch!

Even so, the Astro-Ball Cabinet became one of Worth’s and later (this one) Milson-Worth’s most iconic and successful effects. The cabinet looked stunning and the effect was amazing with little effort on the part of the magician.

Effect: A beautifully ornamented cabinet 9″ wide by 7″ high is shown to be empty by opening both back and front doors. A solid red ball, 2 inches in diameter is placed on one side of the cabinet’s floor. An empty cocktail glass, on the other side. Doors are closed and upon reopening the ball has mysteriously arrived in the glass. No false doors, sleights, or cover. In fact all can be examined.

Comes with the glass and the thick wood like popsicle stick to house the excess thread.  What is required.  We suggest substituting it with different thread and also adding the proper sized plastic hollow colored ball.   The item comes with a sponge ball and thread but would certainly be improved by changing out to a different type of black thread.

Condition Good.  Comes with original instruction and glass. Disclaimer: One of the sides features a cosmetic horizontal line.  The unit being offered is the red and gold finish only seen in the product images, the unit in the video is a different unit. As stated above, I would suggest ordering a plastic colored ball and consider switching out the tread. These sell for up to around $250 we have priced this at what we believe is a fair price based on various factors including suggesting you procure a hollowed out colorful plastic ball and sourcing alternative thread.
