Imagine inviting up to four people to participate in an experiment in mentalism. You introduce a wooden tray that has four unique/different keys. Each key is unique by color or design. With your back turned each participant selects one of the different keys. Remember: the mentalist never sees anything as his back is turned.

This effect can be performed with the assistance of 1, 2, 3 or 4 spectators, allowing the size of your audience to vary. Described effect incorporates four spectators.
Detailed and concise sequence of the Parlor effect.
Parlor Effect: The performer introduces a wood block which holds four different metal keys. At first they are all laid out flat on the try, the keys are held in place by a single loose silicone band looped around the center of the block. Up to four participants are now called upon to assist the performer, the 1st spectator is handed the four different keys and is asked to remove them from the wood block.,
The performer then points out that the wood block contains four small slots the width of each key, the slots are seen to completely penetrate the entire thickness of the block, from its top to its bottom, each slot being positioned underneath where each key was originally seen laid out flat in the block.
The wood block is now handed to a single participant who is instructed to insert the colored keys randomly into any slot of their choice, resulting in all of the keys completely penetrating the block “in their upright position” (top to bottom).
The performer then takes the block and points to the penetrating keys and says: Don’t let me influence your future selections in any way!
Now one at a time, with the mentalist back turned, each of the up to four participants in turn, are handed the wood block and requested to completely remove a single unique key from the block (being a not yet chosen one from a fellow participant) and freely display it for all to see (except the performer).
Once being shown it is to be returned to the same block slot from which it was just removed. Resulting in only the audience members and participants knowing what has just occurred with the unique/different keys. The last participant (if four are used) is left with the last remaining different/unique key, and he/she is instructed to remove ALL the keys from the block. If he wants he can mix them up before handing them back to the mentalist. There is NO way the mentalist could possibly KNOW who choose what key! This is the absolute most mind baffling effect for both Mentalist and audience alike!
