Yes, this is a utility first and foremost... It's function is to help the performer achieve and end and while its a utilitarian act, it does it exceptionally well. Like many utility props on the magic market there is a small familiarity or learning curve to use this effectively and in the most efficient and productive manner.
This holdout is meant to be worn on the hip and held in place by your belt. S.L. Leatherworks recommends wearing it over the belt loop on your right side (if you are right-handed), and vice versa S.L. writes - if you're a Southpaw (left-hand dominate). Heck if your ambidextrous choose your side on any given day.
The actual positioning and wearing the holdout on the belt actually adds additional pressure from the elastic on the on the "chosen item" being held (depending on which hold out you purchase.
Also by wearing it on the hip the curve of your body helps to shield its imprint against your clothing. Think of it as the "mounting point" regards to it being worn on the hip.
Each S.L. Leatherworks hold out comes with 2 brass loops that are attached to the top of the holdout by small leather straps which are attached by Al Capone screws.
