Advanced Magic Square Methods and Tricks - Solberg - Book

Jim Solberg’s Magic Square Books consistently are in the top 10 books each year.  The man has found his niche and most importantly has the know how to teach it.  We suggest you check out any of his Magic Square Books exclusively at Stevens Magic.

Some 275 years ago, Benjamin Franklin created what he claimed was “the most magically magical of any magic square ever made by any magician.” It was a sixteen-by-sixteen square that had over a hundred patterns that matched the sum of 2056. This book reveals a new method to go far beyond Franklin's masterpiece. Starting from any cell, with no math and hardly any thinking, you can enter the 256 numbers in order as fast as you can write them. As unbelievable as it sounds, the result will be a magic square with over three trillion predictable patterns. That is not a misprint. Over 3 trillion!

Of course, filling out such a large grid by yourself would not be practical in a live performance (too boring) and it would be too much to expect an audience to verify the sums. Fortunately, you can construct the square in less than one tenth the time it would take to do it yourself by enlisting the audience to do it for you. There are also solutions for the problem of how to confirm the results without requiring anyone to do the additions. Although a trick like this is not suitable for every occasion or every audience, when the conditions are right, the experience can be breathtaking. You can be sure that no one will ever see a more impressive magic square.

The book also introduces several new ways to construct nine-by-nine magic squares with an astonishing number of successful patterns. The material in this book builds upon basic methods found in Solberg's earlier books. With that background knowledge, you will find these new techniques to be easy to learn and easy to perform. The methods are advanced only in the sense that they assume knowledge of the foundations.
