AVAILABLE DECEMBER 2007! Literally never sold on the open market, the set of cups used by one of America’s all time great close-up performers, Johnny Paul, have now been faithfully reproduced. Johnny Paul had a limited number of cups made for his own use, and those that remain are in the hands of collectors. We were able to obtain a set of these unique cups and have had one of the finest metal craftsmen in the country produce a limited number of them. Unlike so many sets on the market today made of cheap aluminum, these cups are spun of high quality brass to give proper weight and balance for the discriminating professional. In fact, these cups are being made by the son of the craftsman who made the first metal chop cups for Al “Chop Chop” Wheatley many years ago. Unlike most sets of cups for the cups and balls, the Johnny Paul cups are specially shaped for use with sponge balls. A sponge ball placed on top of one cup will be picked up by a cup nested over it. Much like a chop cup, the ball will stay inside the cup until it is placed down sharply allowing the ball to be produced from under the cup. If you have seen Johnny Paul’s routine, perhaps in the Greater Magic Video Library series, you will have experienced a cups and balls routine like no other—a routine that fooled most magicians of the time. The moves and bits of business that can be done with these cups allow a routine that is more entertaining, and baffling than most. Some of the great magicians from the past who featured sponge ball work in concert with the cups include Clarke “Senator” Crandall, Laurie Ireland and Fred Kaps.
